It saves a life! If there is no more room in a shelter or the animal has some type of illness it has a risk of being euthanized.

Animals that end up at shelters may have previously been living on the streets or with an owner who was mistreating them. Rescuing a cat from a shelter gives them a second chance.

When an animal gets adopted there is more room for other animals to come into the shelter to get adopted.

The cost to rescue a pet is significantly lower and the money goes towards helping the facility find homes for other pets. Buying a pet can be costly especially if it's a purebred.
